"Psyche taking a bath"

The artistic production of old wall paper was comparable to that of etchings. The wall paper was hand-printed on wooden boards, and each colour was printed separately and dried. Another was then printed, which the artist finished by hand. The theme was inspired by ancient drawings: Psyche is a character of ancient mythology and symbolised the human soul as thought of by the Greeks.

In the 19th century, panels of handmade wall paper were used instead of tapestries.

Masterpieces of this level hold your attention. It is impossible to turn away when you are savouring the details of the old masters’ drawings. It is worthy of the term contemplation; there is no other word for it. We have always been an avid fanatic of details in a piece of art. The scrupulous elaboration of minor detailsis what brings the images to life.
